What Is Dyslexia? With Kelli Sandman Hurley (Ted Ed Lesson)

A short, widely watched animated lesson on what dyslexia is and how it affects language processing.

What is dyslexia? with Kelli Sandman-Hurley (TED-Ed lesson)
This short animated TED-Ed lesson by Kelli Sandman-Hurley, a dyslexia specialist and author of The Adult Side of Dyslexia, explains what dyslexia is and how it affects the brain's processing of language. It has been viewed more than seven million times, making it one of the most widely watched introductions to the subject.

It presents dyslexia as a difference in language processing that exists along a spectrum, rather than something that fits neatly into labels of normal and defective, and it encourages viewers to see it as part of neurodiversity.

It works well as a quick first explainer for someone who has recently been diagnosed or suspects they may be dyslexic, or as something to share with colleagues and family. The TED-Ed page also has follow-up questions and further reading.
