The Creative Brilliance Of Dyslexia, Kate Griggs (Te Dx Talk)
A TEDx talk by the founder of Made By Dyslexia making the case for dyslexia as a different, creative way of thinking.
Kate Griggs is the founder of the UK charity Made By Dyslexia and author of This Is Dyslexia. Her campaigning contributed to the government-commissioned Rose Review, which recommended dyslexia training for all teachers. In this 2017 TEDxBrighton talk she argues that dyslexia reflects different wiring in the brain, and that this wiring brings creative, lateral thinking which is an advantage in the real world but a disadvantage in an education system that doesn't spot it early.
The talk has been played more than half a million times on TED. It is an energetic, accessible case for focusing on dyslexic strengths, from a British perspective, and pairs naturally with her book.
A note on the evidence: the talk leans firmly on the strengths narrative and includes the familiar roll-call of famous historical figures said to be dyslexic, some of whom were never diagnosed. It works best as a confidence-building reframe rather than as a scientific overview.
